The Story

In the kingdom of Evergrove, young Princess Everglade wakes to discover her most prized possession is gone: a golden necklace passed down through generations of her family. Convinced a villain must be responsible, she sets out on a bold adventure to confront every fearsome creature she has ever heard of.

She packed her satchel, laced her boots,
Set off to find the thieving brutes,
She told herself, "Be brave,
and strong, and bold."

But as the quest unfolds, the "villains" turn out to be nothing like the stories say. Soon, Princess Everglade must question everything she thought she knew and consider that the answer may be closer than she thinks.

A fearsome fire-breathing beast by reputation, living high in a cave above Evergrove. Few dare approach, and fewer return with answers.

Troll of Bonbon Bridge

A greedy, sweet-loving glutton who demands candy from all who cross his bridge. He spends his evenings in the sticky depths of Sugar Swamp.

The Mysterious Snickersnacker

A strange and solitary creature who lives on a lonely isle in Silent Lake. The people of Evergrove whisper about his unknown and curious form.

About the Author

Joe Casamassima once sailed the seas as a pirate cabin boy before swapping his eyepatch for a spacesuit and becoming the first astronaut to bungee jump on the moon. These days, he rides his trusty steed Tinfoil, sips tea like a gentleman, and digs for dinosaur bones with his kids in their Northern Virginia backyard.

About the Illustrator

Tadgh Bentley once roamed the wilds of the British countryside sketching unsuspecting trees before setting off across the globe in search of stories—pausing only briefly to become a teacher, a painter, and a professional bringer-of-books-to-life. About the Contributors

Calvin (8) and Maya (6) are imaginative thinkers and expert story advisors. Calvin sparked the idea to publish a book as a New Year's resolution in 2025, and Maya helped shape the story by suggesting it be about Princess Everglade, a favorite bedtime character. When they're not busy editing manuscripts, joining meetings with the illustrator, or sharing feedback, you'll likely find Maya summiting Mount Everest in roller skates, while Calvin is off in the Elysian Fields playing tag with his favorite heroes and demigods.
